What this Amazon fee calculator does
Every order on Amazon.in pays for several things before money reaches your bank: a referral fee, a closing fee, a weight handling or fulfilment fee, 18% GST on those fees, and two small tax deductions (GST TCS and income-tax TDS). This Amazon fee calculator lines all of them up for one unit, then subtracts your product cost and ad spend so you can see the number that matters: profit per unit.
It also works backwards. The break-even price tells you the lowest selling price at which you stop losing money with your current costs and fee settings.
Amazon changes its fees often. In March 2026 it announced zero referral fees on a large set of products priced under ₹1,000, and it has revised closing fees and other charges since. So every fee in the tool is editable, and the defaults are only a sensible starting point. Your fee card in Seller Central is always the final word.
How to use the calculator
- Enter the selling price the buyer pays, including GST.
- Enter your product cost per unit: purchase or making cost plus packaging. If you are GST-registered and claim input credit on purchases, enter it without GST.
- Pick the GST rate for your product’s HSN code. Since 22 September 2025 most goods sit in the 5% or 18% slab, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods, 3% for gold and jewellery, and a few items still at other rates.
- Choose the fulfilment channel: Easy Ship (Amazon picks up and delivers), FBA (your stock sits in an Amazon fulfilment centre) or Self Ship (you use your own courier).
- Set the referral fee. Pick a category preset for an approximate rate, or type the exact percentage from your fee card. Keep “zero referral fee below ₹1,000” ticked only if your category qualifies.
- Check the closing fee and weight handling fee. The tool suggests values by price band and channel. Overwrite them with the figures from your own fee preview.
- Add ad spend per unit if you run Sponsored Products: total ad cost for the period divided by units sold.
- Open the tax settings if you are not GST-registered or cannot claim input credit, and adjust them.
How the numbers are worked out
- Referral fee = selling price × referral %. Amazon applies it to the total price the buyer pays.
- Total Amazon fees = referral + closing + weight handling + any other fees you add. For Self Ship, your courier cost is counted as your own expense instead.
- GST on fees = 18% of the total fees. If you claim input tax credit, it is deducted from your settlement but you get it back, so it is not counted as a cost.
- TCS = 0.5% of the taxable value (price without GST), and TDS = 0.1%. Both are credited to you, so they reduce cash flow, not profit, unless you tick the option to treat them as costs.
- Profit = price without GST − Amazon fees − product cost − own shipping − ad spend (− GST on fees if you cannot claim credit).
Worked examples for Indian sellers
A ₹799 bamboo kitchen set on Easy Ship
A small brand selling wooden kitchenware lists a set at ₹799 with 5% GST. The price is under ₹1,000, so if the category qualifies the referral fee is zero. With the suggested closing fee and a weight handling fee around ₹65, total Amazon fees come to roughly ₹96. The taxable value is about ₹761. If the set costs ₹380 to make and pack and the seller spends ₹60 per unit on ads, profit lands near ₹225 per unit. Untick the zero-referral box at 10% and the same set earns about ₹145. That gap shows why checking eligibility matters.
A ₹1,299 baby product on FBA
Above ₹1,000 the referral fee applies again. At an approximate 8% referral fee, the fee is about ₹104. Add the closing fee and an FBA fee, and Amazon’s share is around ₹215 before GST. With 18% product GST, the taxable value is about ₹1,101. A ₹450 product cost leaves roughly ₹436 per unit before ads. If the seller cuts the price to ₹999 for a sale, the referral fee may drop to zero. Run both prices through the tool to compare.
A Self Ship seller paying their own courier
On Self Ship, Amazon does not charge weight handling. You pay your courier instead. Enter that cost in the same field (the label changes) and the tool counts it as your expense, not an Amazon fee. Closing fees on Self Ship are usually higher than on Easy Ship, so compare both channels before you decide.
Tips and common mistakes
- Using MRP instead of the real selling price. Fees and GST are based on what the buyer actually pays, so use the deal price during a sale.
- Forgetting volumetric weight. A light but bulky product can fall in a higher weight band. Measure the packed box.
- Treating TCS as a cost. If you file GST returns, TCS comes back as credit. It hurts cash flow for a few weeks, not your margin.
- Ignoring returns. If 10% of orders come back, your real profit per sold unit is lower. Add an allowance to product cost or ad spend.
- Pricing just above ₹1,000. With zero referral fees below ₹1,000 in many categories, ₹999 can beat ₹1,049 on profit as well as conversion.
- Not refreshing your numbers. Re-check your fee card every few months and whenever Amazon announces a change.
FAQs
Are the default fees in this calculator official Amazon rates?
No. They are approximate starting points based on Amazon’s public announcements and seller resources as of October 2026. Exact fees depend on your category, price band, size tier, weight and region. Use the fee preview and revenue calculator in Seller Central for the exact figures, then enter them here.
Does Amazon charge referral fees on products under ₹1,000?
From 16 March 2026 Amazon.in announced zero referral fees on a large number of products priced under ₹1,000, across more than 1,800 categories. Not every product qualifies, so check your category’s fee card and untick the option if yours does not.
What is the difference between TCS and TDS on Amazon?
TCS is collected under GST law, currently 0.5% of the taxable value, and you claim it in your GST return. TDS is an income-tax deduction on e-commerce sales, currently 0.1%, which shows in Form 26AS and is adjusted against your income tax. Both reduce the payout you see, but neither is a true cost if you file correctly.
Should I include GST on Amazon fees as a cost?
Only if you cannot claim input tax credit, for example if you are not GST-registered. Registered sellers usually claim the 18% GST on Amazon fees as credit, so it lowers settlement but not profit.
Which is cheaper: Easy Ship, FBA or Self Ship?
It depends on your product’s size, weight, price and where buyers are. FBA adds storage and fulfilment costs but can improve delivery speed. Easy Ship suits many small sellers. Self Ship can work if you have a good courier rate. Enter each option in the calculator and compare profit per unit.
Turn better margins into better listings
Knowing your numbers is step one. Step two is a listing that earns the click and the sale at the price you need: clear titles, strong images and A+ content, and keywords buyers actually search.
